Great edition! So much to talk about.

First for Apple - I was at the orignal Macintosh introduction, sitting in the fifth row behind Steve Wozniak. The same kind of inchoate negativity rained down from some in the audience, which only made Steve more excited. When someone asked "How can you expect anyone to buy one of these things when it doesn't use industry standard [5", paper sleeve] floppy disks?" Steve pulled the 3" plastic-case disk out of the Mac and flipped it twenty rows up to the questioner like a frisbee. "That's why!"

For the rest, Meta is doomed because they don't control an operating system and don't make their own chips. The AVP is interoperable with all Apple products from day one, not to mention the app and developer ecosystem. Also, from what I have seen, Meta took the approach of Snowcrash where the VR environment was fundamentally separate from environmental reality. Also, that what you did was walk around like in Second Life. Boooring. Physical movement is a humanOS overhead function that we all try to eliminate in electronic media. Look at Amazon for shopping - does it look like a physical retail store where you cruise up and down the aisles? We figured out that problem with VR in the early 80s. I'm amazed to see Meta repeat novice mistakes.

Finally, the Apple AVP technology is light years ahead of anyone else. They have created a huge moat for competitors to cross. Much bigger than the iPhone, IMHO.

For your last article on recovering from mistakes: Early on I discovered that when you are programming and are two hours into a brilliant algorithm and the computer crashes, the first impulse is to throw a shit-fit. However, that's wrong - you have to block your emotional mind, sit right back down and focus on rebuilding what you just lost. It's like a mental switch and works amazingly well. Like a dream, your mind can reload the memories of your work and often it turns out better the second time.

The anticipatory pupil response feature sounds so cool!

Why do you think they are avoiding mentioning AI explicitly?
