Interesting theory on the agreement between Apple and OpenAI. It probably would be more than worth forgoing payment up front if Apple is serving as an on-ramp for OpenAI paid accounts!
It feels like it's a way for OpenAI to build more scale to be able to compete more effectively with Google. Few people's distribution can compete with Google, but Microsoft + Apple is in the ballpark.
It makes perfect sense - I don’t have any feel whatsoever for who would have more bargaining power in that discussion, or even the distribution of possible agreement outcomes. Super insightful to read your thoughts on it 👍🏼.
I think Apple has the leverage. Notice how they didn't bring out Sam at the keynote and didn't feature OpenAI that much, and mentioned other models are coming.
They may even auction off the top position between Google and OpenAI and others like they do for default search
Right, I remember you writing about the astronomical figures that Google pays to have the default browser on iOS 🤯🤯. I suppose that’s not a far-fetched outcome at all.
‘Paperman’ was....... FANTASTIC! 🤩
I know, right! Glad you liked it

Yeah, I think the latest court filing showed something close to $20 billion a year just to be the default search on iOS
