Masters of the Air on Apple Vision Pro was one of the best media experiences of my young life :) Highly recommend.

Wow! How much do you think it was the Vision Pro and how much was is the show? I don't have a vision pro, so I'm wondering how it may be on a regular TV screen

Will say that the show reminded me a lot of Band of Brothers, with great casting. Definitely worth the time investment.

I'm a big fan of Band of Brothers. I was a bit disappointed by The Pacific, but I think I'm out of the consensus on that one. If you haven't seen it, you may want to check it out

The book on which a good part of Pacific is based is definitely worth a read, one of my favorite war memoirs: 'With the Old Breed' by E.B. Sledge

Sorry to hear about your migraine. Hopefully all's well now.

Will save you time on Masters of the Air (as a big fan of the genre whose watched Band of Brothers and the Pacific many times): it is not very good. The action scenes are good but it gets tiring. The acting is decent but feels forced at times. Did not love the show. Solid 6/10

That’s kind of what I’m afraid of. I was a big fan of ‘With the old breed’ the memoir on which a big part of The Pacific is based, and I was disappointed with that show.

Maybe I need to watch it again, maybe I would like it more now.

But to me Band of Brothers is in the league of its own.

I’ve heard good things about ‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’ but haven’t seen it yet.

Re ocular migraines. I have had these in the form of disco ribbons in my visual field, which I guessed was the route of tiny blood vessels in my visual cortex or retinas once or twice a year since my twenties, I think, possibly late teens. An optometrist/optician some years later told me that an ibuprofen should help dilate the slightly constricted blood vessels and I found that worked very quickly and usually eliminated the headache I would often get after an hour afterwards without the ibuprofen. I believe paracetamol is nearly as good if you don't have ibuprofen.

Thanks for the tip! I hasn’t happened again, but if it does, I’ll experiment and see if it helps

I'm at work in Europe right now and therefore appreciated your discussion about air conditioners...since my hotel is air conditioned. It is important to note that it's not just people that are negatively affected when conditioned air is unavailable due to stringent European regulations, so are aircraft. In many ways, bureaucrats here make life more difficult than it should be: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/f698ea6c-49f4-4faa-9ac0-137f390f3f9c

Reminds me of Austin Powers and the steamroller.

The Coram book on Boyd was great. I believe "The Pentagon Wars" that follows one of his acolytes may do an even better job of highlighting the waste, political games and inefficiency of the Pentagon. After a couple of recommendations from people I trust, it is next on my reading list.

Thanks, I think I had heard of Pentagon Wars, but I haven't read it yet. Bumping it up on the list.

One problem with a lot of these European regulations is that they assume that the way to solve a problem is to cut back, suffer, etc, rather than find solutions that allow abundance + better outcomes. There's a moralistic tint to a lot of this rather than a more pragmatic/engineering approach.

I'm not saying there's never a place for self-sacrifice, but I don't like when it's imposed from above in a paternalisti way, especially if those who impose it are mostly find and it's others who pay the (sometimes ultimate) price.

Enjoy europe! 💚 🥃
