Loved the Cloudflare org structure deep dive. Conway's Law is real and what is so impressive is they have kept up hiring and product velocity in lockstep even as the company is now adding 100s of new hires each year. Lot of surface area to come up with new products that can perhaps even become bigger than the existing products one day!
Yeah, the way they keep expanding their TAM is really impressive, and a lot of their impressive recent stuff isn't even really monetized yet.
I also like how their early products (CDN, DDOS protection) helped them get collocated at all these ISPs, and now they are in all those super valuable spots around the world that competitors couldn't even buy into if they wanted to.
“The innovation of an entirely new activity is different to the feature differentiation of a product which is different from converting a product to a utility service.”
Job to earn money VS free time optionality to follow my curiosity. [well said!] It also makes me think of the diminishing returns of an incremental dollar at some point.
Yeah, this is definitely real. Too few people figure out what "enough" is. It can be a relatively small amount if what makes you happy isn't expensive (ie. a computer connected to the internet, some books, some music, time with my family and friends... none of that is super expensive).

Loved it too! This is a great example of Pioneers, Settlers and Town Planners model as presented by Simon Wardley https://medium.com/org-hacking/pioneers-settlers-town-planners-wardley-9dcd3709cde7

I like that terminology, makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing, and for reading!
BTW, if you liked the Cloudflare section, stay tuned for part 2, probably on Monday. It didn't all fit in one email..
