I've checked it out once a while ago, but just quickly. What would you say are the benefits of Circle over Slack/Discord?

There's also a kind of network effect that I'm trying to keep in mind.. Harder to get people on a platform that they aren't already on/to add one more app to their app diet..

Personally I find slack and discord or chat based system too noisy and over exposure to them at work and other communities takes a toll … I like the news letters because I can read them directly in my inbox similarly circle.so looks like a good place to have high quality content and conversions vs low quality high throughput (chat based ) slack and discord

But again just one man’s opinions I won’t mind a WhatsApp group + circle.so

Thanks Ashish, it's an interesting idea. I grew up on forums and do like that in-between format, but that feels like a bigger project and a bigger time commitment. I'll certainly consider it 🤔

Tbh i have slack and discord fatigue

- the most active 10% ppl keep chatting within themselves and becomes super challenging to catchup with the threads and replies to understand the context

- noise to signal ratio also increases over time

That's totally understandable. Different people use these things more or less and have different relationships with them... I'm basically in no Slacks and Discords that I have to keep an eye on (I'm on the Substack beta, but only check once in a while).

The goal here certainly wouldn't be to turn anything into homework that needs to be kept up with in real-time. Just a place for readers to find each other, discuss things, etc.

Would probably need to make it clear that if a conversation becomes a 1-on-1, that it should be taken to a private side-channel and not in the main channel.. But I'm sure something could be done to keep it pleasant and manageable.

Loved the segment on "Why lies can be more “believable” than the truth". The part about triggering the "ah-ha" moment that makes it more satisfying and then add in the repeat structure. Don't tell the lie once, repeat it often so that even if people don't believe the actual lie it moves them further from the underlying "truth" (which is often a bit vague and less precise).

Good point! I should've thought of that and included it -- repetition just works, sadly.
