Having more children to solve top heavy older populations is like a Ponzi scheme, no? I don't see any point in increasing cattle, cars, deforestation, and such when it's only kicking the can down the road. We won't be able to populate other worlds with significant amounts of people for decades at least so let's not encourage more offspring until we're ready.

No, the point is solving the problems on Earth first. Environmental impact per capita isn't a fixed thing at all, in the same way that food production per acre of land wasn't fixed at all despite what Mathusians said at the time.

Old societies on the decline aren't societies that are dynamic enough to solve big problems and do heavy lifting and large scale projects. If you wait for all problems to be solved before tackling demographics, it'll be too late because there's way too much inertia in the system.

The only way forward is through.
