I had the thought too because of the analogy to anti-bacterial soap, but then I thought some more about it, and it's more analogous to sunlight. There's plenty of UV outside, it's more like bringing strong sunlight indoors. So I don't think it would have much of an impact.
Answering your question of “Who else has all kinds of disadvantages against strong competitors, except focus”. Roku! Roku’s biggest competitors are Amazon, Google, and Apple yet they are still the dominant TV os in North America because they are laser focused on TV/CTV.
Your observation on Ben Thompson is great, he’s done really well and the combination of his knowledge + his access is really crystallizing the unique value that he has. Another example worth looking at (a follows a very similar path) is bill Simmons. He started out mainly focused on text (writing columns, articles) and over time transitioned into podcasting (plus an ill fated talk show attempt). I think the strategy that he adopted was very similar to what Ben Thompson is trying now
That's a great example! A few people have pointed him out, and it was a "slap forehead" moment.
I think I didn't think of him because I'm not really a sports person, so I only got to know SImmons after he had already branched out (Rewatchables, etc), but I've heard about his evolution and it does seem very similar.
I no nothing about the field, but I suspect that widespread UVC use would rapidly lead to organisms developing resistance/tolerance to it

In other words, antibiotics are a chemical compound that nature can try to evolve around. Radiation is a different class of thing altogether.

That's a good one!
