As a music lover, I've always wondered what it would be like to have synthesia. Does it show up for all sounds? Are the colors floating around like AR or is it at the source of the sound? Is it distracting for some genres, while additive for others? When did you realize not everyone else experiences it? So interesting!
I think so. A lawnmower or a birdsong has a kind of visual texture to it 🤔
"Are the colors floating around like AR or is it at the source of the sound?"
So that's hard to explain, but it's both directional from the source of the sound, but also in my mind's eye, not overlaid visually on top of what I see with my eyes.
"Is it distracting for some genres, while additive for others?"
I don't really find it distracting, but probably because I've never experience it any other way, so it's just what it is for me, if that makes sense.
"When did you realize not everyone else experiences it?"
My wife has synesthesia. She didn't know it until I told her about mine. She has it with colors associated for letters and numbers and days of the week and months. She doesn't have it for sound or music.
But I don't think I know anyone else with it. Or maybe I'm forgetting 🤔
I need to check again with my kids, maybe it's highly genetic.
Yeah, so much relies on their DDoS protection, DNS, Workers platform, Zero Trust security, etc.. I think their reverse proxies are in front of over 23% of the internet at this point. Very important infrastructure.
Looks like a really cool book, I hope to read it soon!
Let me know what you think of it. You can read Derek's stuff online on his website too, but the book format is really nice.

Let me try to take each one:

Probably in my mid 20s.
Thanks for the details! Have you met anyone else with it?

Super helpful! Thanks for the post. Plus it’s nice to see Italy contemplate the use of magic rocks for powergen
Magic rocks for powergen! I love that way of putting it.
Reminds me of semicondcutors + AI being "thinking sand"
Wow, now that’s good.
I’m gonna tell you a secret based on our tech stack, since the post is on Cloudflare. If Cloudflare goes down, everyone goes down.

We use them, but we’re finding out more of our stack uses them too. Based on outages.
