This was a great article, captures a lot on mentors, learning and how to push things. I particularly loved the graph on Mentor's skill, vs familiarity vs your skill. Knowing the idea doesn't mean you can do.(but knowing is much better than not knowing, its a good start). Thanks
I see this phenomenon so often (with Buffett but also younger 'mentors' like Ben Thompson and others) and I so rarely saw people explain why it happened that I felt compelled to write about it. Hopefully it's a useful idea, not only to understand what is going on, but to nudge people on what to do to keep progressing, and to get to the other side where they start admiring their early mentors again.
